Better or rapid nucleation means better dispersion however, will it inhibit the size of the crystals? Do larger crystal size indicate agglomeration and poor dispersion?
Yes more are the nuclei more will be the number of crystals with smaller size. Larger crystal size means more growth of crystals. Agglomeration May result due to particles with no charge are venerable to agglomeration.
Too much disturbances or rapid cooling of crystallization batch from high temperature results in greater formation of nuclei thus promoting growth of smaller Crystals..
Here Agglomeration means simply gathering of maximum no. of particles on a specific nuclei or active site thus allowing crystal growth of large size. It can only be achieved by slow evaporation and less physical disturbances.
Thanks all of you for your valuable answer. But I am confused. I prepared a catalyst by ultrasonication and also by conventional method. But the crystal size of ultrasonically prepared catalyst showed higher crystal size than conventional method. So does that mean agglomeration in case of ultrasonically prepared catalyst?
okay..sometimes overtime ultrasonications may result in Agglomeration of broken particles rather than further breaking particles into smaller ones... thus generating larger nuclei and forms crystals of large dimensions... but these are all kinetic parameters, if u further dissolve them it will form crystal of normal dimensions...
