Yes, bEND5 cells form functional gap junctions and express junctional proteins, I am not sure which connexins they express. For culture conditions, please see the attached paper.
Thanks Abha Sahni. I was referring to gap junctions in particular and not tight junctions. Thanks for the paper. I quickly searched for "gap junction" in it, found nothing except for a reference. Nevertheless, culture conditions mentioned in the paper could be useful. They suggest using mercaptoethanol to prevent oxidative damage to the cells.
I am still looking for any information that shows bEND5 cells form functional gap junctions through which small molecules can pass.
These papers are useful. Although, they used bEND3, they clearly show GJIC between cultured endothelial cells. It appears that gelatin coating culture plates might help.
