Want to know about the material used during power lifting, its white powder. I wish to know about the chemical composition of that material.
It is Talc powder. Talc is a clay mineral composed of hydrated magnesium silicate with the chemical formula H2Mg3(SiO3)4 or Mg3Si4O10(OH)2. In loose form, it, along with corn starch, was one of the most widely used substances known as baby powder.

I think the white powder is not Talc, if you google "gym chalk", many webpages or pictures will give you the anwser: it's magnesium carbonate (MgCO3).
Normally it is Talc. At least in our gyms in Russia. But probably it is possible to use any soft mineral powder that precipitates water without becoming slurry.
Thank you sir @ Gaoming, Farid and Ilia Baranov..... It might be chalk, but is there any reference related to that. Because I got to know from reference that the material used in gym is wood resin in powder form. Can anybody tell about melting point of talc...? I intend to use it in some thermal applications.
