I'm looking for a protocol how to isolate gDNA from pet fur/hair obtained after brushing. I know it will only contain very few nucleated cells. Anyone? Preferably without using phenol/chloroform.

I won't need much, just enough to do 5-10 PCRs.

Any advice, suggestion or reference would be greatly appreciated.

The reason I would like to know is so we can minimize stress for cats when obtaining their DNA. A cheek swab is possible, but would be more stressful.
