I am a second year student at Bangor University looking for a dissertation question for my final year.
I am mainly interested in working in the field, mainly basing my research on herpetology (Though I am not opposed to researching ornithology or entomology based questions)
I was just wondering if anybody had any good ideas for a dissertation as I am really struggling and would like expert opinions.

Hello Mollie; A question that has produced some interesting results is a comparison of the ants that inhabit urban greenspaces compared to those that are found in nearby rural settings. The only barrier to progress would be your ability to correctly identify the local ants. There is some excellent help there. Somebody in your faculty is probably familiar with the local fauna and there is an excellent website of images of all of the species in Wales. Check out AntWeb.org. Here is a link to the UK.

If you don't have a definite research topic that you definitely want to investigate, it is wise to contact an institution where you would like to work (after obtaining your M.Sc. degree). In this institute, ask what questions are currently being researched and then choose one of these topics and join.
It may also be important that the location of the field work is not too far from where you live, because good field research usually requires frequent visit of the study sites.
