The decision to discontinue Transmission-Based Precautions for patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection should be made using a symptom-based and test based strategy.
1- Patient is not immunocompromised with mild to moderate illness in whom at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, with no fever and respiratory symptoms improved, has 2 negative SARAS-COV-2 PCR tests taken 24 hours apart.
2- Patient is severely immunocompromised with severe to critical illness with at least 20 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, with no fever and respiratory symptoms improved, has 2 negative SARAS-COV-2 PCR tests taken 24 hours apart.
Criteria for discharging patients from isolation (i.e., discontinuing transmission-based precautions) without requiring retesting:
For symptomatic patients: 10 days after symptom onset, plus at least 3 additional days without symptoms (including without fever and without respiratory symptoms)
For asymptomatic cases: 10 days after positive test for SARS-CoV-2
