I would like to know what are different possible ways of acquiring antibodies apart from exposure to foreign Antigen.
Few examples are : Acquiring antibodies from
1)Mother through placenta and Breast Milk.
2) During Blood Transfusion/Plasma Therapy.
Is there any other ways ?
Some antibodies are natural like those against the ABO blood group. You're born with them. Anti-Rh antibodies do require exposure to antigen.
In many autoimmune diseases, oftentimes characterized by increased number of autoantibodies, the treatment of choice is IVIg (intravenous IgG, that is supposed to ocuppy Fc receptors in reticuloendothelial system. Similar to blood transfusion.
Another way to get excess of antibodies are lymphoproliferative diseases, where B cell precursors become neoplastic and over produce their antibodies, like light chains, heavy chains, gammaglobulinemia, multiple myeloma, etc.
There might other treatments which use specific monoclonal antibodies against TNFalpha and other cytokines.
