1) Cumulus clouds

This transition indicates that the cloud is no longer made up of water droplets, but ice crystals. When gusts of wind blow water droplets out of the cloud, they quickly evaporate in a drier environment, which is why the edges of water clouds are very sharply defined. Ice crystals carried out of the cloud do not evaporate so quickly, which makes the edges of such a cloud look more smoky.

Cumulonimbus clouds often have a flat top. Inside such a cloud, air convection occurs, and it gradually cools until it reaches the temperature of the surrounding atmosphere. At this point, it loses buoyancy and can no longer rise higher. Instead, it spreads out to the sides, forming a characteristic anvil shape.

3) Cirrus clouds

Cirrus clouds form in very high layers of the atmosphere. They are smoky, because they consist entirely of ice crystals falling in the atmosphere. If Cirrus clouds carry winds moving at different speeds, they acquire a characteristic curved shape. It is only at very high altitudes or at high latitudes that Cirrus clouds produce rain that reaches the ground.

But if you notice that Cirrus clouds are beginning to cover a large area of the sky, becoming lower and thicker, this is a sure sign that a warm front is approaching. In the warm front, there are warm and cold air masses. Lighter warm air rises above the cold, which leads to the formation of clouds. The lowering of clouds indicates that the front is approaching, and that it will rain in the next 12 hours.

4) Layered clouds

Layered clouds – a low-lying, continuous cloud sheet covering the sky. Layered clouds are formed by slowly rising air or light wind that covers the cold land or sea surface with moist air. Layered clouds are thin, so, despite the gloomy picture, it is unlikely to rain from them, at most a small drizzle. Layered clouds are identical to fog, so if you've ever walked through a mountainous area on a foggy day, you've been inside a cloud.

5) Lenticular clouds

The last two types of clouds won't help you predict the weather, but they will give you a first glimpse of the extremely complex movements of the atmosphere. Smooth and lenticular lenticular clouds form when air is blown up and across a mountain range.

The main difference is between day and night. During the day there is a balance and cooling usually dominates. During the the night there is no balance because the Sun is missing and the clouds reflect the infrared radiation from the ground and kept the Earth warm

Some of my intended responses have been covered by Z Ataev. Cloud type, texture, thickness, spread and height do play a part. High level thin wispy Cirrus cloud do not affect the global earth temperatures in the same manner as the deep convective cumuli cloud or when there widely spread nimbostratus cloud. Various heat transfer processes (reflection, scattering, absorption, diffusion etc.) occur differently based on where, type, how it is spread or when; leading to either cooling effect by day or warming at night (time factor).

OK so I know you've already gotten great answers to your question but I'm gonna try to make this as simple as possible:

Clouds can block light and heat from the Sun, well... that makes the Earth’s temperature cooler. You’ve probably noticed this on a cloudy day.

However, some heat from the Sun does get down to Earth cause lets face it: we don't have clouds all around the Earth all the time...ok? So...Clouds can trap that heat from the Sun. At night, when there’s no sunlight, clouds are still trapping heat. It’s sort of like clouds are wrapping Earth in a big, warm blanket.

Now...to wrap up to a conclusion... do clouds warm more or cool more? Well, that depends on where the clouds are in the atmosphere.

Clouds within a mile or so of Earth’s surface tend to cool more than they warm. These low, thicker clouds mostly reflect the Sun’s heat which eventually cools the Earth’s surface.

However, clouds high up in the atmosphere have the opposite effect: They tend to warm Earth more than they cool. High, thin clouds trap some of the Sun’s heat. and warms the Earth’s surface.

Overall, right now... Earth’s surface is cooler with clouds than it would be without the clouds... so cooling wins!

Icy clouds such as Cirrus reflect most if sunlight, thus cooling effect. Vapor clouds such as Cumullus let sunlight go through, however when reflected light comes from the Earth in infrared wavelength it is trapped into the water vapor, thus warming effect.
