Please, I have a question about CT scanners
Why is CT scanners available with different energies? What is the benefit behind using the CT scanners with different energies ?
Is it depending on the patients obesity and the location of lesion or are there other reasons?
Automatic exposure control modifies the tube output in the z-axis direction to maintain adequate dose when scanning body regions with different attenuation.
So the reason is to provide scanning according to ALARA principle (as low as reasonably achivable)
I think AEC controls the tube current output according to ALARA. The most important part of energy involvement in CT images are achieving the best contrast for various organs/applications and also for different body shapes and sizes.
