Difference in significance between a variable and 2 diversity indices?

So, I performed 2 correlation tests between a variable and diversity index values from several sites, one of these tests used Simpson's Diversity Index (D), whilst the other used Shannon-Wiener Index (H).

The results showed a significant relationship between the variable and the Simpson Diversity values, but the relationship between the variable and Shannon-Wiener values was not significant.

Can anyone suggest a reason for this difference? I'm tearing my hair out!

Hello Alex,

The Shannon index increases as both the richness and the evenness of the community increase. Simpson (D) is a measure of dominance, so as D increases, diversity decreases. That's why you have opposite results from these 2 diversity index.
