General differences is that GC is less active for the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, so more suitable for investigating electrochemical reactions in aqueous media (wider potential windows than Pt). Also, GC is much less sensitive to solution impurities. On the other hand, platinum is much better electrocatalytic materials,
