The 2010 study proves by a wide number of widely accepted assays that spirulina contains an important fraction of methylcobalamin. Previous studies by Watanabe and al. questioned the capacity of spirulina to provide usable B12 by the human organism on fairly thin grounds in the absence of such a complete array of assays. Nevertheless, a 2013 study by Watanabe seems to ignore this development and continues to question the possibility of obtaining vitamin B12 from spirulina. Is the debate mostly closed now or not?
