Freshwater does not have its own goal, likely due to being intimitely linked with SDG 15 (Life on land), SDG 6 (Clean water and sanitation) and SDG 14 (Life below water). Freshwater falls on terrestrial areas (SDG 15), is used for clean water (SDG 6) and eventually ends up in other bodies of water (SDG 14). This is exemplified by looking at sub-goal 6.6 titled 'By 2020, protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes' and sub-goal 15.1 titled 'By 2020, ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements'.
