In Iraq jujube give fruits 2 times a year, and as i know flowering occur on new growth of current season.my question related with if jujube cultivars have chilling requirement especially it grow as an evergreen tree in most countries.
Yes Dr Ali , Jujube requires mild chilling requirement to make it flower and set fruits. Low/mild chilling requirement means plants will flower even after mild winter. Enclosed a PDF for further reading please.
Thank you for interesting answer ,but in Iraq Jujube give yield two times a year, spring crop where the plant subjected to low temp.during winter and plants flower in spring, fruits maturation happened at April and may , the second crop was the Autumn one, flowering takes place at summer months where temp. reached 50 0 C .It means as I think that there is no chilling were available for the plants but they gave alarge amount of flowers, but the crop was of low value.
Dr Ali , such plant responses are case sensitive . We have observed in central India where there is no typical chilling temperature available as against other subtropical countries like China, Japan , USA etc with regard to citrus , but still good crop response is obtained , by holding irrigation for varying periods , largely dependent upon the depth and texture of the soil . So crop is of high value without any chilling exposure. Jujube is basically a crop tailor made for arid and semi-arid areas having less rainfall and much higher temperature , preferably thermic and hyperthermic type.
