As because of COVID-19 pandemic, worldwide degree will be delayed (specially MPhil degree probably will take at least 5 semesters). Will it have any effect on future job or PhD?
To me everything gets delayed, but my way of thinking is figuring out how to do other things that support your primary endeavor. The issue is not falling behind, it is falling behind less than your peers so you come out ahead relatively speaking when normalcy resumes.
Let me use myself as example. I started a PhD degree in March 2015. I completed both research and write-up in October, 2018. I did final presentation in Feb 2019. My abstract passed through the faculty and the postgraduate school for approval and this lasted for 10months. I was given a letter from the PG school on the 19th December, 2019 to be examined within 6 months. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I have not been able to defend my thesis till now. Covid-19 has caused devastating effects on education. Covid-19 has further delayed my defense and possibly the year of graduation.
It is my personal view that delayed in getting degree due to COVID- 19 pandemic, will have an effect on job opportunities for young graduates, students seeking admission for higher degrees, and promotion of the academicians in the College/University.
This pandemic can delay completion of post graduate studies where a research is involved in field work interacting with the public to collect reaserch data in most epidemiological studies. Such interactions put the researcher and the public at high risk of getting the virus hence the research work is halted for sometime due to fear of the unknown, nobody would wish to be conferred with a post graduate degree post humous just because you would wish to complete your studies in time under the current situation.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the research work of my several relative's sons and daughters; and hence, there is a delay in completing their PG degree.
