Hello Community,

I am experimenting with deep eutectic solvents for supercapacitors. I tried:

Choline Chloride: Urea

EG: Choline Chloride 1:2

Choline chloride: Zncl2

Urea: Zncl2

Choline Chloride: Mgcl2 etc

I am also looking into EMIM TFB

If I use the DES directly as electrolyte for supercapacitor, I can see no current draw when charging. I take the two components required for the DES and heat them for 30 mins @70 degrees celcius. The liquid forms very easily but becomes stiff an highly viscous and hardens eventually. As a result of this, it is not able to get into the supercap pores for any intercalation.

Am I supposed to be mixing my DES with an aqueous electrolyte to improve its electrochemical window? I read tons of papers but none of them seem to mention this clearly or anything about this issue

Lastly, I want to use EMIM TFB as I hear it is stable to moisture and kicks up the energy density of Graphene by almost 10 times. Sigma as you all know if too expensive. I Looked at some papers for synthesis but am unable to select a suitable one.

Can anybody suggest a suitable relatively easy route to syth EMIM? I guess I can then buy Na. TFB and try making the DES
