What teaching learning methods are suggested during and after COVID-19 pandemic in resource limited teacher education colleges?
At the moment the only teaching method possible is online teaching and learning even though its a challenge since some lecturers are not trained for such as well as the issue of accessibility to students in terms of gadgets.
Hello Efram, can you expand a bit. You say 'resource limited' teacher education colleges. What resources do your students realistically have access to?
Currently, due to the development of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic (causing Covid-19 disease), many people are quarantined at home, work remotely online and leave home less often than usual. Due to the suspension of stationary didactic classes in schools and colleges, these classes have been replaced by specific forms of e-learning. In this situation, students learn only at home. The impact of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic development on education processes in schools and colleges is therefore very large. In connection with the development of the Coronavirus pandemic, specific procedures, techniques, recommendations and guidelines regarding specific safety principles are still being taken up and constantly improved in many countries to limit the development of a pandemic. For example, a legal recommendation or order to remain in home quarantine. Stationary didactic classes in schools and colleges have now (March-June 2020) been suspended and replaced by e-learning in many countries. Due to the suspension of stationary didactic classes in schools and colleges, classes are conducted remotely, through various new online media through specific forms of e-learning. In this situation, students learn only at home. Due to the above, many areas of activity that were carried out before, before the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic outside of the home, now, unfortunately, must be carried out only or mainly at home depending on the level of recommended or legally required level of restrictions, safety rules etc. regarding home quarantine. It is therefore very important to stay in the quarantine of our home and to carry out our entire activities at home, if possible, because thanks to this we significantly contribute to limiting the development of the epidemic. On the other hand, teachers are currently looking for answers to the following research questions: How will the current state of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic affect learning outcomes? There are many questions that will be answered in the future. However, currently the priority is to limit the scale of development of the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic, and therefore a significant part of the didactic process is implemented in the form of e-learning. In addition, another particularly important question related to this issue that many teachers and students ask themselves in many countries is when the final exams of a given stage of education will take place, whether the dates of these exams will not be moved due to the SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus pandemic future deadlines and will the form of these exams not be changed? In some countries, it has already been decided or is being discussed in the ministries of education that perhaps the form of the exam will be changed. Perhaps, in a situation where certain final exams, e.g. matura exams were previously conducted as standard in the form of written and oral exams, it may be decided to resign from the oral exams form. Currently, some countries are testing only final exams carried out remotely via the Internet. Therefore, global crises like the current SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic causing Covid-19 cause accelerated economy digitization, e-learning development, implementation of ICT information technologies and internet applications into education processes. The consequence of this type of pandemic crisis is also an increase in the digitization of education processes. The technological progress that is being made may lead to the implementation of Industry 4.0 technology, including Machine Learning technology and Artificial Intelligence, to specific elements of education processes implemented e.g. in the form of e-learning in the future. However, technology should not replace a teacher.
Greetings,
Dariusz Prokopowicz
This situation may vary according to the lessons. In this process, learning through individual learning, project-based learning and research can be suggested. Students can be evaluated with the product file. If techniques such as video, presentation, animation and simulation are used in lessons, more motivation is provided.
Teachers can do modular approach. The module must be contextualized or at least modified in a way that students can easily manage at their own phasing. Moreover, assessment will ensure that learning really happened. Students may go to school during examination and the school must observe necessary protocol to secure students.
Jayson Seel M Maravilla is wise - modular approaches are wonderful! Especially because the process of breaking courses and concepts into modules allows you and your colleagues to determine what (if any) units / topics really should wait for face-to-face instruction or internship or apprenticeship. You can then have students focus on the things they can more easily learn in isolation.
COVID-19 unfolded the digital benefits to many who could not anticipate it can be realized in this way, so far the best alternative in this pandemic dilemma which can be through zoom and skype and different learning virtue environments such as moodle, google classroom among others for synchronous and asynchronous modes of the online teaching process. Open Educational Resources (OER) to enrich knowledge and it is cost-effective
However, the unfamiliar exposure which is quite challenging to adopt by students, some students, internet unstable connectivity, and more so very expensive to acquire all the required resources. this can be mitigation by creating awareness to the practitioners and even students which also will have to be on zoom, which might drag the initiative, thus, we shall continue little by little we shall catch even after the pandemic.ICT has come to stay especially in African countries,
In my view, a Virtual type of E-teaching-learning is recommended until the complete clearance of the COVID-19 Pandemic situation. Through this mode of teaching and learning, teacher-guided project and research-based learning activities could be effective to fulfill the academic needs.
Good teaching and learning is as much a function of resources as it is a gift for some teachers and learners. The COVID-19 crisis has increased the negative effect of resources in the teaching and learning process.
So it is hard to suggest a method without a clear vision of the context you are working under.
Taking into account my own context (public university in Mozambique) I would recommend you to use any method which allows students to use their own activity to construct their knowledge and the assessment tasks are aligned to what it is intended to be learned. If you can use ICT, it is good for you, if you can not afford to have ICT in place, use handouts.
In our case blended learning is one of the choices to be implemented for the incoming learning process with the new normal situation
A challenge in under-resourced educational ecosystems during Covid-19, is that of connectivity and data. Further, is the socio-economic and psychological factors that impact engagement. Can I suggest consolidated 'workbooks' with extended resources, activities and project-based learning that are self-paced to allow students to work in a self-directed space? They can be available online or in hard copy, to be collected on a once off visit to the campus with access to tutors for support.
Pandemic makes us enter the virtual era, all methods can be used to only change the way, most importantly keep clean and fun learning
During COVID-19 pandemic, us, educators have explored many online tools to deliver and assess the learning objective intended to complete during the academic; however the learning/ teaching and technology resources are not the same between schools.
Flipped Classroom can be used, where educational material are delivered to students prior to the online class so that the discussion occurs during the e-class; it reduces the delivery time and make the e-session more interactive. the resources can be as simple as pdf or word file (case study) for the schools with limited tools and technology and as complex as a simulation or virtual lab link for the well equipped schools. Mini projects can be given as part of continuous assessment.
And the most important thing is to keep the personal interaction via one to one teacher/ student meeting. it would take time form the teachers but it is important to also check if any psycho-social barrier is present especially in these hard times. this step would also help the teacher to challenge the distinguished students and motivate them, and support the students who have weaknesses (promoting differentiated learning)
While they are many tools available for U.S. educators at all levels, the availability of such does not guarantee the quality of instruction on digital learning platforms. Just as in any other educational space, the student experience needs to be considered first and lessons planned around how to help students access curriculum in ways they keep them engaged and give them a variety of ways to express knowledge. Educators who think outsitde "the cubicle" and can encourage learners to expand their learning space during asynchronous learning to include more of their world will be successful.
All possible, but do not forget, that even at the time of lockdown, there are some possibilities to do some activities in the park, for example, or on the distance like 2 m between participants. The physical meeting is important and for example, a lecture in the park is something extraordinary. Which pops up forever- and the knowledge with it. It will be recorded differently in our memory- especially in student memory. Solutions for every situation are the background for every teaching- we can make it, no matter what (in good sense! :) And the knowledge and experience will be even stronger. Everyone will remember some special occasions, like this we did in spring 2020. Take care!
In the distance education process: Project-based, research-based and individual learning methods can be preferred.
Some would say that a lot of strategies and teaching methods can be applied in respond to the current situation that we are facing right now. But it depends on the area where you are situated. In our case, most of our schools don't have any access on internet, so it is difficult to go through online learning. Apart from that, considering also physical distancing protocol, face to face learning mode is much discouraged. So, if I were to suggest what teaching methods to apply in the learning process, synchronous and asynchronous teaching modes are suits to be the best teaching methods for those place having full internet connections.
In addition, allowing also students to develop their skills even they are not present in school, guided exploratory modules and interactive handouts.
The current situation is a real challenge in teaching. E-learning has the highest percentage of possibility, but in third countries, like the Philippines, not everyone has access to the internet, so modular teaching can also be considered as feasible.
during the covid 19 epidemic, all aspects of human life were disrupted, including education, because this condition as a teacher must have many effective teaching innovations and at least not change purpose of subject, create learning method that can make students enjoy, safe and contain aspects of psychology healing also...;))

Dear Dr. Efrem Kentiba ,
Teaching methods recommended during COVID-19 are teaching methods that rely on the introduction of student-centered teaching, with the use of various means of clarification.
In this pandemic, mass media and print media may be used in developing and underdeveloped countries to teach the children through videos. Because, online education can not be possible as it will create digital divide due to uneven development in every region, state, district, village and people etc
We are exploring a lot, in online activities, the use of visualizations and representation, mainly to work with abstract concepts. In an attempt to assist the student in this process with the support of visualizations. But carefully, because the image alone does not replace the teacher's role in this process. Also with support from different media so students can also develop critical media reading skills, being less vulnerable when exposed to different resources.

While teaching online via ZOOM, do your best to replicate face-to-face teaching. Zoom is a robust video conferencing platform. If you like to lecture, do so. If you like to discuss With students, do so. If the class size is big, try small breakout room discussions. If you like student presentations, they are possible. If you like to handwrite on boards, use the white board features. You may record your lectures, if you want to be available asynchronously. Most important—have fun while doing all this. Students will follow you. Best wishes!

online teaching classes and conducting online exams for studnts.
Dear Nirmala S.V.S.G how do you see the conduction of online exams of the students?
Virtual or online classes. An appropriate method could be discussion method so as to solicit views from both parties.
Efrem, as necessity has been daubed the mother of inventions, I think the current COVID-19 situation has placed both resource limited and resource rich colleges and higher education institutions in a similar, albeit slightly level varying, situation. This is partly because all manner of institutions will have to find new and innovative ways to make use of their already stretched resource capacity in order to develop more creative ways to learn how to teach and to teach students how to learn. This will involve, in no small measure, greater use of new technologies to disseminate teaching and learning materials, new communication platforms, new support mechanisms for all participants and the potential for new partnerships and networks in order to pool more human and material resources to enable the new methods to be effective. Interesting....
With uncertain and unknown situations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Online teaching/learning became inescapable rather than optional. There's an extraordinary surge on use of online options (some of them are named in the earlier responses).
On a different note, as I reflect on learning process, be it in classrooms or outside, in my view it is not so much enhanced by a classroom or environment, as much from the incitement and stimulus to thinking about the concept/subject. In other words learning process is less impacted by external surroundings and more impacted by interest and engagement with the subject. I therefore argue that mere transposition of teaching/learning to online mode SHOULDN'T influence effectiveness of teaching or learning, the factors that complement teaching/learning process however need to be adopted.

Yes, I agree with Shreekant Shiralkar. In this crisis, online teaching/learning became inescapable rather than optional. In fact, these last words summarize the need to adopt e-learning totally or partially (blended learning).
I recommend blended or mixed education based on the combination of e-learning and face-to-face education.
To cater the marginalized and the underprivileged learners, modular approach is of great help. Also, If the local government is encouraged to partake, procurement of gadgets can lead to online learning.

During the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, all areas of life were impaired, including education ... It is indispensable for interactive education and attendance face to face..but in that exceptional period, we must follow the method of e-learning that encourages the student to love to learn and use the correct scientific sites and how to take the information from the source. Giving the student freedom and self-confidence to write scientific reports and articles in a personal style.
Yes, I agree with Marwan Mahmood Saleh . In fact, student freedom and self-confidence are the main features of e-Learning environments.
The students are tired and worried so teachers need to pay attention to this point in dealing with them electronically.
You are right Liqaa Habeb Al-Obaydi about the students' problems. So, in your opinion, what is the solution to these two problems? Remember that we are in online education, so the proposed solution must take into account that both teachers and students are not in face to face sessions.
Dear Dr Yacine Lafifi
We all need to deal with this crisis quietly and being far from anger and pressure. Loading students with accumulation of lessons and homewords may lead to opposite results.
For next academic year, more likely there will be a mix of online-only and hybrid teaching methods.
The hybrid approach includes both online and face-to face to different ratios for the delivery of contents.
However, if things get really bad because of Covid-19 health crisis, then faculty and students can switch completely to the online-only method of delivery.

Dear Dr. Efrem Kentiba ,
There is no doubt that electronic teaching is the only way during the Corona period, but several things must be taken into account in order to achieve its goals, including: relying on the student-centered teaching approach, setting standards for teaching and evaluation, the diversity of sources of knowledge.

Good morning
The current panorama more than a challenge, urgently requires the training of teachers in the field of active methodologies (MA), in competences and in the domain of pedagogical and technological knowledge of content.
The technological tools that can be added to teaching are: multimedia projector, multimedia resources, email, virtual forums, chats, videoconferences, Internet, software, simulations, remote laboratories, quality educational materials, web pages, virtual platforms, mobile telephony , etc. It should be clarified that the media are not only technological, they also include educational materials, prepared by specialists.
Best regards

Despite the fact that different applications and platforms have been used to teach the different courses that make up the primary, secondary and university education curriculum, many teachers still show attachment to traditional teaching, and it is the teaching environment or context that changes. But the way in which knowledge is mediated does not change, in the sense of achieving greater levels of abstraction in the natural and social sciences and increasing the level of awareness so that students themselves propose solutions to the different problems that affect them on the personal, social, and global levels. So, the change must be in the metacognitive way of how the student constructs his knowledge.
Many well meaning education benefactors and commentators have expressed that in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic online self-guided learning could solve some of the current teaching problems and address the educational backlog.
I really like to talk more about strategies than methods. In times of Pandemic and with distance learning, strategies can be applied such as: guided discussions, elaboration and presentation of videos of relevant topics, use by the teacher and the student of simulators (for Physics and Chemistry), readings of material published in the areas of Natural Sciences for example, presentation by videos of laboratory experiences with materials from everyday life, where all these strategies applied with achievable learning objectives and where students are the main protagonists of the construction of their own learning.

Online teaching and learning imply a certain pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), mainly related to designing and organising for better learning experiences and creating distinctive learning environments, with the help of digital technologies. With this article, we provide some expert insights into this online-learning-related PCK, with the goal of helping non-expert university teachers (i.e. those who have little experience with online learning) to navigate in these challenging times. Our findings point at the design of learning activities with certain characteristics, the combination of three types of presence (social, cognitive and facilitatory) and the need for adapting assessment to the new learning requirements. We end with a reflection on how responding to a crisis (as best we can) may precipitate enhanced teaching and learning practices in the postdigital era.

During covid-19 pandemic, online teaching is essential. But, it should be conducted either through PPT, video display, assignments and Quiz methods etc to make it more effective .
Due to the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) pandemic, education processes are implemented in e-learning, so in order to increase their effectiveness, the remote education process should be implemented in the online formula as part of videoconferencing with the use of applications and functions of videoconferencing programs enabling the activation of students and students, enabling the encouragement of pupils and students to actively participate in educational activities conducted as part of e-learning. Videoconferencing applications should be equipped with functions enabling the implementation of various types of educational activities, including exercise classes, seminars, tutorials and other skills-developing and improving the skills of students and students.

For Dr. Efrem Learning methods suitable for health vocational colleges can be broken down into two parts; first for learning theory online, secondly, practicum learning in the laboratory is still carried out face-to-face by complying with the Covid-19 preventive health protocol on campus. Students are divided into several groups (maximum 8 students per group), then the practicum schedule is arranged according to the OSCE method. Hopefully useful, thank you

while online teaching learning is perhaps the only option available during pandemic times, the challenge is to make it effective and ensure that the student and teacher community does not encounter loss of interest. use of PPTs, small handouts explaining core of the day discussion, getting feedback and discussing that with students, making assessment flexible and through various tools etc. are some of the strategies. however teacher should be given complete freedom to decide on the methods of teaching and assessment. of course the goal should be to save the learning loss as much as possible.
What form of education, i.e. e-learning, stationary or hybrid, will be used from September - October 2021 will depend on the scale of the development of the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic; will there be another major wave of the pandemic this fall; what will be the level of public vaccination against Coronavirus; will the social, collective population resilience of society be achieved; Will the new variant of the Coronavirus, i.e. the Indian Delta variety, or the next one that will appear by autumn, prove to be more infectious, pathogenic and resistant to the vaccines currently in use and will trigger a strong increase in new infections of citizens with Coronavirus and an increase in the incidence of the Covid-19 disease, or holiday season, holiday season, i.e. in the months of July - August this year, they will continue to apply the basic principles and instruments of anti-pandemic safety and how efficiently and reliably the process of pandemic risk management and crisis management will be carried out in public institutions as well as in companies and enterprises.
