Vitamins, Zinc and other compounds are known to increase anti viral activity of the immune system. What about SH-donating compounds, that may help functioning of thioreductase activity and assist in microbicidal activity, eg that of phagocytes? Thiolgroup donating compounds as contained in garlic, onions etc - would these be a useful addition to regular nutrition in order to fight virus infection? One of my earlier paper was showing how "Dithiocarbamate" substance can increase anti-mycobacterial activity of human monocytes (incl. M. tuberculosis) in healthy and HIV infected subjects (L.Huebner, 1991 - here on RG). - =>What is the latest in this context for anti-VIRAL activity of such nutrients, please? Thank you very much.
