What tagging solutions are there to allow for MCI victims to be triaged and/or later on followed upon? This usually includes bracelet systems, but electronic solutions using RFIDs or similiar technology are also of interest. Thank you
The most weel known is the Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment ("START") system and Tags based on the 4 color coded categories:
- Red = immediate - critical patient
- Yellow = delayed - serious patient that could wait until all reds have been transported
- Green = ambulatory / hold – minor injuries
- Black = deceased (expectant)
Here is a pretty good summary of how this works and how to categorize patients: http://bit.ly/1JK01SE
There are a few examples of prototypes of electronic tags (e.g. http://www.jhuapl.edu/AID-N/Pub/EMBS_2006_Triage.pdf) but even if it looks appealing, I suspect that this would be too time consuming and/or expensive to implement on a large scale.
Thank you for your response! We use the START triage system for some time now, with good results. You are right about the electronic tags as they are presented in the article.
I was wondering if anyone would know about any actual usage of barcodes/contacless tags already in use, maybe there's a practical way of having it done on a large scale.
We are also using the same START system but would like to try new systems if applicable. Please do share your experience if u happen to use these new systems successfully.
