I am interesting in making compost, especially for farmers.
Composting and metahne fermentation are the good way to reduce organic waste to landfill and good for incineration in terms of energy recovery. If anyone have experiences of producing compost or mathane fermentation from organic waste.
I suggest the anaerobic stabilization of biodegradable organic materials including dead animals and plant tissues (with less ligno-cellulose constituents) in combination with graded levels of cattle manure and or swine excreta/poultry droppings. Mix well with top soil and allow to ferment in the presence of a good number of earthworms. Good compost would be achieved with good fermentative kinetics of methane. (Yours; Olusoji).
Wastewater obtained during the production of cassava starch is commonly used by its manufacturers. It covers sufficiently at least some part of their demand for energy sources.
Thank everyone for sharing your experince and knowledge. Most people in rural area normally use animal excreta directly to the crop. But it may give negative impact for plants. It is good to make compost by mixing with the leave of typical plant. However, in big and small city the amount of biodegradable material is high percentage which make more effect to environment and public heallth if it is improper management. So the promotion of recycling of organic waste is encouraged, but the problem is that wate normally is mixed with uncompostable.
If your composting facility will be close to farms, crop residues and animal manure will be good options. Near cities, yard waste like leaves and lawn grass combine with food waste will give you both good bulking agent and nutrients. And all these materials won't have too much concerns of heavy metal or pathogens.
You must look for biodegradable wastes at your region. Best of all are crop residues (such as sugarcane and corn stalks) and manures (such as cow and chicken manure). However, in most cases a combination of different biodegradable wastes give you the best results. You must notice that the waste used for composting and fermentation must be low in ligno-cellulose, heavy metals, pathogens and other inhibitors.
