Agreed with the points shared by Chalamala. Also want to share / add the following:
Try to understand or internalize the original text & use your own words to rewrite or summarize - then put yourself in readers' shoes whether they can understand the original meaning.
During paraphrasing make good use of Internet search engine e.g. Google to search for synonym, proper use of grammars, appropriateness of formed sentences etc
Use some plagiarism software to scan your thesis / manuscript to confirm there is no plagiarism (for some software examples, see link below).
Plagiarism is a serious issue is research writing.
I fully support the previous two answers given by respectable colleagues.
The best way to avoid plagiarism is "don't copy paste anything" but use your own words and sentences. Also avoid self - plagiarism. Give proper citations where ever necessary.
Use a good plagiarism checking software. In addition to Dr. Han Ping Fung's suggestions, URKUND ( http://www.urkund.com/en/ ) plagiarism checker is also useful.
Deliberate plagiarism with a clear intention to cheat is, however, far less common than plagiarism committed through misunderstanding or even carelessness. These latter types of plagiarism may occur if:
---you fail to acknowledge fully the sources of knowledge and ideas that you use in your work;
---you incorporate the words of others into your writing as if they were your own;
---you 'string together' ideas or facts taken from others without presenting your own viewpoint.
Many students, particularly those at the beginning of their courses, are unclear about how to use the work of others in a way that does not constitute plagiarism. This resource has been written to give guidance on how to avoid plagiarism and at the same time produce work of better quality.
Use your own words and develop your own writing style:
Many students, particularly when they first start writing, find it difficult to develop their own writing style. When you are reading and researching for a piece of written work, try to use your own words in your notes to summarise your reading, and include your own ideas and comments on each text that you read. As you practise and establish your writing style, you will become more confident about expressing your thoughts and ideas in your own way.
If your first language is not English, and you are not yet completely fluent, it can be very tempting to borrow a well expressed sentence or even a paragraph from another writer. However, this is plagiarism, and lecturers would much prefer to receive a piece of work in your own, if imperfect, style than to read chunks of text in perfect English that are clearly taken from another writer.
Sir, using software like PlagScan (https://www.plagscan.com/plagiarism-check/) may help detect percentage of plagiarized texts in your manuscript. However, while writing a manuscripts, if you take extra care in using information from other documents, you can minimize to a certain extent.
The responses of the colleagues are insightful. In addition, I consider that the various academic and research institutions must facilitate the scientific staff members by providing a free good plagiarism software, where it is not yet available.
Yes i agree with Dr Arisidis Matsoukis. A research institution must ensure free access to such software. Hope such facilities are available in good research organisations.
Need to pay special attention on literature survey and methodology portion of the research article as most of the plagiarism is in these sections only.
Be disciplined and don't ever steal someone's academic contribution. Make intelligent references by recasting the wording of their points and citing them accordingly.
Some effective tips to avoid plagiarism. Understand the context. Do not copy–paste the text verbatim from the reference paper. Quote. Use quotes to indicate that the text has been taken from another paper. Identify what does and does not need to be cited. Manage citations.
The process of recycling is surrounded by some economic determinants and therefore consideration must be given to the economic value of recycling and also need to provide the necessary technology for recycling in addition to the properties of the material to be recycled.

The point here is to differentiate between plagiarism and similarity. To avoid plagiarism, cite and acknowledge another authors’ work if you use it. To avoid similarity, paraphrase the other authors’ work. Anyway, you should cite, acknowledge and reference sources that you used appropriately.
