Fishermen of some areas of Bangladesh claim to catch this freshwater species. This seems to be Anabus sp. with golden body color (probably due to the expression of recessive allele?). However, could you all share your opinion about the fish on the photo?
Hi, presently I and my friend, who is excellent in t fish taxonomy, are in Bhavnagar to analyse fish species, We've analysed your picture and we cannot give exact scientific name to this fish species. For sure it is species from Anabantoidei sub-order. We need more photos. Within next two wee s we’ll be in Bangladesh so we can meet and talk about ichthyofauna of this geographical region.

Golden form of the climbing perch Anabas testudineus. This form is available in the UK for the aquarist market but i have no doubt that it occurs naturally in this varient? Makes you wonder how they dont all get picked off by predators. Great photo, lovely fish. Very little infor on the golden form available. NMo mention on fish base

fish looks more or less like Anabas in appearance as of body form, shape and scale formation, but the variable body color may be a case of mutation because of any reason(s). for example; Fish like other aquatic organisms may be exposed to a great range of insecticides during the course of their life cycle. In fish, different insecticides can be absorbed through gills, skin or alimentary ducts. Fishes are particularly sensitive to environmental contamination of water. Hence, pollutants such as insecticides may significantly damage certain physiological and biochemical processes when they enter into the organs of fishes.
If you have a sample of tissue presented fish (e.g. a fragment of fin) the genetic identification of fish species (using genetic markers) will be possible.

It really looks like climbing perch, a xanthic form. This mutation is common in fish of various species spawned-and-reared in aquaculture (e.g., rainbow trout, orfe etc.), so why it could not appear ocassionaly in wild fish, as well? However, it is not that reliable working out any identification from the photograph.
Looks like Anabas spp. Bangladesh has different varieties of climbing perch, and I know this species (with normal colouration) was brought to India in 2000 because the variety was suitable for farming. The comment by Rayner "Golden form of the climbing perch Anabas testudineus. This form is available in the UK for the aquarist market" makes me assume that this could have been an escape from aquarist's tanks to the wild. Similar escapes of sucker catfish and a few other species from aquarium to natural waters have been reported from India. Having porous borders, Bangladesh (and India) used to get fishes by clandestine imports. Rahman, please check if this fish is available in the hobbyists' market. Otherwise this might be a mutant variety in the wild. mtDNA analysis and a Blast search of sequence in the database will reveal the species similarity.
Certainly looks like Anabas but possibly an albino or albino cross? In the UK we have "golden rainbow trout" which are crosses of an albino with a normal rainbow, as distinct from the golden trout sub-species.
I assume this specimen was caught from the river. How many specimens are there in the wild? Are they abundantly found? If it is naturally found, is it rarely caught, or just being found recently? Does any aquaculture activities around? What are the human activities around the area?
