I am developing a hypothesised model based on a theoretical framwork in a conceptual paper, but I only want to use part of the framework and add something new in the model. Does anyone know if this is okay? If so, coudl you show me any journal articles that did this?
This is perfectly ok. How else would theories develop?
A good example is a rather well-known article by Christine Oliver (1991, Academy of Management Review 16: 145-179), "Strategic Responses to Institutional Processes". On page 146, she writes:
"Table 1 summarizes the convergent assumptions and differences in
focus between institutional and resource dependence theories that are relevant to the characterization of strategic responses to external pressures and expectations." (my emphasis)
This means that she took from two theories what is relevant to her research question and combined it.
You can do whatever you like since there is no law determining model rules in this world :)
