Drawing in general requires some imagination and many students are having difficulty in acquiring this skill. I think the complexity of this subject could be modeled through cognitive science findings. For example, we may take an advantage of the findings of mental images and develop a curriculum that mitigate this complexity.
Definitely improves the cognitive skills. Mechanical/ Engineering drawing complexity can only be avoided by including basic drawing skills at school level / Pre - engineering level which shall reflect in easy understanding, also improves the imagination level among students.

Mechanical Engineering Drawing/Engineering Drawing is a challenging subject to teach and also to learn. In my class room i ask the students first to build models (using chart sheets) of various solids which gives them idea about the 3D modeling and also development of surfaces. I ask them to keep the models on the table while explaining the drawing problem. This makes my students feel happy and find the subject easy to learn.
Learning engineering drawing will improve logical thinking and imagination in students.

Technical/Mechanical/Engineering drawing subject is very crucial for Engineering students. Today, not many students able to understand and draw their technical drawings (draft) correctly, because many of them straight away applying the modern CAD software to do their designs and create the 2D drawing with it, without understanding the the technical drawing methodology.
I found that many young engineers couldn't interpret their drawing correctly, such as 'over dimensioning'', didnt know why we should apply different thickness of lines or curves, too many drawing views, which dimensions are important and etc.
The fault I found is not only on the students, but the instructors or the lecturers. Even many young lecturers didn't have a good technical drawing skills and have no 'industrial experiences' at all.
How can the lecturer teach the students to become the 'future engineers' if they are not an engineer before?
There are pros and cons.
