The South American fauna is much different from North America than are, even widely separated areas of North America such as Mexican deserts verses deserts even a very long way north. For one thing there are physical and climatic barriers to the movement of dry land bugs.
To family level, even Borror and DeLong's Introduction to the Study of Insects would meet that need. Then the challenge will be to get even to the genus level.
