Till now there is no report of transmission of Leishmania major by occular route to humans (other than through the bite of a sandfly). After inoculation of the promastigotes in to the skin through a sandfly bite, Leishmania enter macrophages present locally in which they multiply initially. Since you have washed your eye immediately, there are least chances of these organisms surviving in the eye and infecting a macrophage. So, I feel you are out of danger. Still, look for an expert opinion. All the best.

I know that for processing infection, the parasites should be inter macrophages but the important point is this fact that there are many questions about this parasite biology and we do not know the parasite are able to penetrate to eye tissue or not!

There are occasionally reports of ocular leishmaniasis in literature.  Many of these cases were concomitantly having other symptoms/signs of leishmaniasis.  As far as whether inoculation of promastigotes directly into eyes causes ocular leishmaniasis it appears limited data support it.  See this paper- "Ocular experimental leishmaniasis in C57BL/10 and BALB/c mice induced by Leishmania amazonensis infection" by K.S. Calabrese et al, Vet Parasitol Volume 133, Issue 2, February 2013, Pages 156–161.

That had been said your chance of developing such a disease is very slim.  You took procedure to wash your eyes intensively, which should remove majority of the promastigotes if not all.  Nevertheless, monitor your eyes closely.  See experts/doctors if abnormality occurs to the eye in the future.  Sorry for your accident.  I hope this helps.

Sorry by this accident. Till now don´t exist reports wich  describe that pathway for infection with that parasite.

If u injected at least 2 million live promastigotes directly into your eyes,  you would take ocular leishmaniasis. But you said that some drops of parasites suspension sprinkled from the syringe to your eye, so DO NOT WORRY about it. You never catch disease.

As Erick said:  be careful and don´t forget to use glasses for laboratory work.

Unfortunately This sudden accident was happened to me too, I rinsed my eyes with water more than 4 times and then used sterile eye drops. but i'm not sure IF the parasite was with less pathogenicity activity or the drug was effective!

I hope there is no problem or danger but maybe better to check with optometrist!
