In my study, I'm planning to display a pair of visual stimuli (pictures/photos/images) for participants.
The point is -> these pictures or photos (etc.) have to be similar in: 1) theme; 2) subjective rank of visual aspects (e.g. attractiveness or complexity).
In other words - I'm looking for a visual stimuli set/base that have been previously evaluated on any visual aspect (and of course standarized).
Don't know if this is helpful but try previous publications and see if authors might send you their sets of stimuli?
The IAPS (international affective picture system) would be one example, though I'm not sure it has been rated on the specific elements that you mention (I think it has been rated on things such as arousal and valence). Perhaps you could do this in a separate pilot study?

in my experience, the IAPS has some serious drawbacks. Image quality is poor for some images, and the ratings that come with the IAPS are, if I remeber correctly, from the 70s and the USA, so I would be reluctant to rely on them in Europe 2014.
In the "Help"-Section of Wikipedia, there are very useful links to royalty-free image databases (mostly GPL). Picking images there and running a littlle pre-study to get them rated is some hours of work, but worth the effort. You then have exactly what you need, and if you should publish your work, there's no hassle with image rights.

if you want I can send you a couple of landscape scenes, urban or forest, that have been rated on scenic beauty and received approximately similar scores, not long ago, and by European (Dutch) participants (students mostly).
You may try IAPS. Their validation paper that compares the reactions of children, adolescent and adults was published in 2001. Other validation papers/manual I believe published around 2007-2008. Check out their website:

The Chicago Face Database was made available just recently. It includes all manner of norming data as well.

There are a large number of free stimulus databases in Psychology that have been validated in terms of emotion. For faces: NimStim, Radbound, NIMH-ChEFS, etc. There are also a number of more general face/body/emotion databases in Computer Science, such as HUMAINE, or Labeled faces in the wild. These are less often valdiated in psychological terms, but focus more on ecological validity (i.e. not recorded in a lab), content variety, and semantic labelling.
