My research is looking at quantifying the response of lichen community dynamics to the prescribed burning and thinning of forests in the southeastern United States.
I would be surprised if Jesse Miller hasn't looked into this, given his proclivity toward lichens and the research he's done on Ozark glades. I don't think he's published anything on it specifically, but he's probably worth reaching out to about it.
Hi, I just saw this. I've done two studies on wildfire effects on lichens. We have found that high severity fire burns up lichens completely, and they may take a long time to come back afterwards. Low severity ground fires, however, do not seem to reduce lichen diversity at all if the lichens are up in the forest canopy. So low-severity prescribed fire likely wouldn't have too much of an effect on epiphytic lichens, except for very low on tree boles.
