Many scientists performed their great works in the past with little assistance of designed machines, factory produced chemicals etc. They performed their research mainly by getting concepts at first and then collecting proofs by experiments with self arranged materials in most of the time.
But in the contemporary research, the ideas of West are used as a base and research projects are prepared on that base. The instruments and factory made chemicals are mainly used for such research.
Prof. J. C. Bose performed his outstanding researches in Kolkata, India on practical Physics (Radio), and Botany by the instruments prepared by some illiterate blacksmith according to his own design.
Do you think the contemporary system of research has no alternative at present time?
Or research basing mainly on proper concept can also be performed?
I think anyone can make a contribution even the one with little instrumentation and BIG ideas.
I have a student who proposed a system to slow down a tsunami wave. He knows very little, but his eyes are brilliant as the sun!
Look at all the instruments created by the ancient Greeks (like an alarm, a vending machine, etc) who used only materials that surrounded them.

But quality of research and the research to get something new for the society is perhaps more important than the IF of the publishing journal. Isn't it?
Look at all recent breakthroughs, it seems the west dominates because of the investment they made in education and the financial resources available to conduct research. This is not limited to universities but extends to major companies such as Apple, Google, Facebook, GE, Boeing, etc. The only way is to collaborate and utilize what has been built. Time and resources are required to catchup. As to Western concepts, I believe it is difficult to assert they are all western. Many Indians, Chinese, etc continue to engage and contribute through worthy collaborative research.
I remember that joke ( or reality) I do not know, American space program had a problem, in space without gravity ink pens do not work, ink has no well to go down! They invested millions in research to solve the problem! Russians solved it by using a 10'cents pencil.

All roads meet one point, which is our need for Western support in terms of our need for scientific resources, equipment and materials used in the completion of research, and publication in scientific journals. The idea can be generated anywhere, but how can we make it fruitful and useful to all?
It is a science investment by multinational corporations, a profitable target, controlling the world markets

We in this moment discuss this issue in English language, it is a Western Language, it is not your mother tongue or mine! It is a Western culture, aren't you?
Look to what we wear, what we eat,what we use in transportation, in communication, and the most important for us "in Science", all these are tools from Western civilization, and Western concepts!!.
You can not live surrounding with all these things and come and say:
"Western concepts are the basic requirement of research,is there any other way available at present time?"
These is no other way, because now we all live inside that box!.
So, let us take its advantages and try minimize its negative impacts!

Well , fundamental science is based on developing theories and verifying thru measurements . The prime research being the theory for which measurement is done . You can develop the theory and collaborate for cost effectiveness or patent it .
Einstein could use a pen and paper to do science study. Yet, the others ought to use huge money and a lot of equipment to do scientific research. It means: Yes, there is a cheaper way to do research.
It's the same as in the medical field. The western uses expensive lab test, expensive research equipment. The results? It's not as good as Chines medicine to study our ancestor's wisdom and knowledge to use them to treat diseases to get far better results than western medicine.
In reference to Dr. Najib, the Russians may have solved the problem of using a pencil but still haven’t landed on the moon! The USA did in 1969 without pencils.
Personally I may be considered as biased if I support Dr. Frieda Mah with a comment that the alternate system of thinking may be possible. In medicine, not only the Chinese medicines, many other types of disease management systems are available and waiting for thorough research.
Yes, Ayurveda and all types of Ethno-medicinal practices are included in the list.

God is supper kind. He puts diseases solutions in the universe in both economic and cost ways. He allows rich people to use expensive ways to treat. But the source of the Chinese medicine has the best solution to help aging people who had contribute the world a lot without dying in tube insertion and organ failure!
You or anyone can against my opinion. But, you can not stop God's love for everyone who needs help. I can witness the solution exists and have more than decade effective practice among big numbers of patients in different kind diseases in China.
In Chinese culture, the simplest and cheapest way is the best. It exists. Only the person who has the willing to help the most people can find it. He believes God's love has no bias!
