I have used 5 pointer (Dependent variable with 25 items) & 7 pointer (independent variable with 16 items) scale to collect data on two variables. Can i apply correlation analysis & regression on the scores.Does difference in the likert scale will effect my analysis

First, I assume that you have combined the separate items into two scales, so that you are trying to correlate those scales. Second, there is no problem in correlating any two variables that are measured on different interval-level scales (e.g., education and income).

If I understood your question quickly, you want to calculate the correlation between two vector variables (one with 25 items and the other with 16 items). If it is right, I think correlation does not work. Because as far as I know the dimension of the two vectors should be equal to calculate the correlation coefficient.
CORRELATION must have equal number of observation on both variables.
@Mahdieh is correct on this point because in correlation calculation:
r = b(Sx / Sy)
There is no problem in Sx and Sy here because you can obtain standard
deviation for X and Y. However, b = slope is obtained by:
b = I / II
I = N(sum(XY)) - sum(X)sum(Y)
II = N(sum(X2)) - (sum(X))2
This term N(sum(XY)) in statement I has problem because of the unequal
number of observations. You have 9 missing observations in X.
DATA SCALE. The scale of all variables should have the same response space. If 5 points scale is used, all variable should have the same scale. In this case, one variable has 5 points scale and another has 7 points scale. Find a way to transform these scale to a common scale and do analysis.
Thanks all for your responses, however I need to understand if there is any standard way or formula to convert 7 pointer likert scale to 5- pointer likert scale.

Divya, do you plan to collect the two variables only? If your DV is measured using a 5 likert scale and your IV is measured using a 7 likert scale and you would like to determine the association between the two variables, I would like to tell you that it is no problem for you to proceed to the analysis. The two variables are continuous variables. No problem for you to conduct a pearson correlation and regression.
Dear Divya, There is no problem whatsoever the Likert's scales are of your DV and IVs, you can run correlation as well as regression analysis. But, one thing should be kept in mind that the response should be filled in by a respondents for all asked items.
