There is a lot of data that confirm this type of thesis. The opinion of citizens, general public awareness of key regional and global problems is largely shaped by the media. As we know, the media are different, more or less independent. More or less objective. More or less consolidated, related by capital, sometimes also on an international scale. More or less related to specific business, political and social environments, non-governmental organizations, etc. In addition, in recent years the importance of new Internet media, including social media portals, has been growing in terms of shaping the general public opinion and awareness. This type of media works differently than classical media. Opinion on a specific topic on social media portals can be shaped to a large extent socially through the viral marketing mechanism that duplicates the readership of a specific banner, post, comment, which may be interesting for some reason. In terms of shaping the general public opinion and awareness about the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic (causing the Covid-19 disease), on social media you can find many banners, entries, posts, comments that duplicate various unconfirmed data that are the basis for creating specific phobias, high levels of uncertainty, threats, etc. Therefore, the media are different and the information they contain is different. The key issue is therefore to use the media in which reliable information is provided, confirmed by scientific research, etc., so as not to become a consumer of information aimed at duplicating unconfirmed, biased information and misleading, creating a phobia, state of emergency, uncertainty, etc. Various conspiracy theories also appear in the media. Paradoxically, we also know from the media that this is the case, so it is sometimes difficult to find a clear line separating reliable and objective information from that created unreliably and biased.
