I want to test expression of one of the protein in clinical samples of oral cancer. So can I use cheek cells as control or I need to derive some other tissue from mouth of normal individual?
It depends on the origin of your cancer samples. For example: if one cancer sample was taken from the tongue of the patient, it would be best your control sample was also taken from a tongue of a healthy human. Protein expression can vary between different tissue types.
Would it not be possible to do buccal smears or tongue smears of the healthy people? It would be less cells, but I think cells would be enough to use for protein expression levels. Or buccal smears could be used in cell culture to multiply cells.
