Kinga - You must understand that there is a big difference between qualitative, quantitative or mixed method research. In your case, it is better to use qualitative research design since you have used open-ended questions. Qualitative research is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations and provides insights into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative research. Quantitative research deals with numbers, measurement and involves mostly descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Mixed method design is a collection of both open and closed-ended data (qualitative and quantitative data) in response to research question. It emphasize the research problem and use all approaches available in order to come to a better understanding have a deep understanding of the problem and to collect the rich data.

I think that, arguably, Content Analysis can be quantitative, qualitative OR 'mixed methods' depending on the researcher's purpose: QUANT; QUAL; QUANT-qual.; QUAL-quant.

Therefore, since you have recorded the answers to open questions in frequency tables, I'd say that your doing 'mixed methods'.

Having said this, I must add that I am dubious of the notion of 'mixed methods', since arguably, ALL research is 'mixed methods' in some way and the term simply points to the balance of 'currency' used in one's research----narrative, numbers, or some of both.

As such, perhaps the term has some kind of merit for research transparency.

Dear @DrManzoorHussain, I understand the differences, I normally use quantitative method, and the study is quantitative, it's the fact that I am converting qualitative data into quantitative that is confusing when naming it- is it quantitative content analysis. Thank you.
