I want to connect two parts in abaqus. One is a cylindrical shell and the other is a solid deformable ring. The ring will act as a stiffener for the cylindrical shell. My question is what is the appropriate way to connect them?
1) Should I connect the parts in Assembly modulus and then merge them together?
2) Should I design both in Part modulus?
3)Or should I tie them with a solid-to-shell constraint?
What is the best strategy? How the results will be affected by choosing one of these 3 methods?

You can use all three mentioned ways, and there is no significant difference between their results. I usually use Tie interaction to do such connections.
the third option is better , to consider the displacement in case of over stresses.
as you describe , the ( The ring will act as a stiffener for the cylindrical shell ) , so what will happened if the loads or any thing is more than loaded.
the third option will give you results till the friction coff. can carry. and if the loads is more , the the final results will give you error.
Spyros Arvanitis, I agree with Ahmed Hassan Nada that if you are considering friction effects the best strategy would be to connect them through a constrain.
However, if you assume a "perfect" connection, i.e., the two components are tied to each other and you are not concerned about detailed modeling of the interface, I would create a single part (both components designed as one) and then use the partitioning strategies to partition them so that I can assign different material properties and different types of mesh. This way there will be no need for additional constrains and you won't have to worry about mesh density compatibility either.
