I appreciate your observation and your opinion. When the nature had been designed (of if there is no objection to: God's plan is..) to provide food for all. Then where id it go wrong that all do not get food? It is obvious something went wrong due to wrong human attitude or interventions. Now, we need to stop and look into what could be done.
Competitions apart, we can brainstorm the reasons and solutions even if they are philosophical.
My laboratory is working on crop pest management by making insect pests partially sterilized or genetically compromised as a result of radiation treatment which might prove useful in controlling these pests and hence, preventing the annual loss of yield as a consequence of damaged caused by these pests.
Sir I am working in a lab which is dedicated to the studies on methods of pest management basically insects causing damage to Indian crops. We employed various techniques like microbial control such as Bacillus thuriengiensis; entomopathogenic nematodes such as Steinernema glaseri; and parabiological control such as SIT, F-1 sterility and moulting hormone agonists. We are looking forward to apply these methods to control crop insect pests and prevent annual heavy loss caused due to damage inflicted to crops by these animals.

Thanks Smitta for your inputs. Pest management is one of the methods to improve the crop yield. I also worked once on B.thuriengiensis toxins. We had gone ahead in research from use of microbes to use of GM plants which produce toxins for pests. However, there are criticisms about the adverse effects. A scientist should always move towards newer and safer methods. Yes, many times the time teaches us many things. As Walter mentioned, I too believe in collaborations. Instead of frowing at critics, collaborate with them. Maybe we need to now look at the adverse effects and how they are caused. If we can do further engineering on the protein and study if we get only beneficial effect, it would be wonderful. I think, you can join the Idea-Jam and contribute your ideas.
