As a chemist/spectroscopist I'm not familiar with good suppliers for enzymes. I'm interested in the, very common, enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA) from different sources (e.g. bovine, human, etc). Also, if existent, I'm interested in commercial suppliers of ADA's iso-enzymes ADA1 and ADA2. So far I've ordered from Worthington and CalBioChem. How does one search for commercial availablity of enzymes?
You might try SIGMA ALDRICH (they sell ADA, I just checked). However, to speak with Eph Racker (Cornell): "Don't waste clean thoughts on dirty enzymes". Before you apply your million dollar spectroscopy equipment on a commercial protein/enzyme, you better check its quality/activity etc., the literature is full of "clean thoughts". My experience as a (trained) chemist: go to your friendly biochemist who might help you to purify the commercially available product (shouldn't be a problem at UCSD), or do it yourself. Worthington Biochemicals is an excellent source of carefully purified enzymes. They provide excellent support materials (e.g. optimal assay conditions) as well.
The easiest method for searching out such thing is to consult a good seach engine. Googling "Adensosine deaminas suppliers provided this link (among others): http://www.biosciregister.com/Adenosine_Deaminase_ADA/Suppliers/pid4942.htm
Other suppliers you might investigate are Roche, some of the Japanese enzyme suppliers like Toyobo, perhaps Promega, US Biochemicals, etc. Quite frankly, though, I think your best bets as far as quality is concerned would be Worthington and Roche. Sigma tends to buy and repackage a lot of their products.
