This species is encountered frequently in northern Norway. It is a boreal species found in hard bottom habitats from 9 meters depth. These specimens were found at 40 meters depth in an area with relative strong currents. C. islandica is very mobile as it can swim for short distances. Have seen old specimens with sponges, tube-building polychaetas and red algae attached to them, but never in younger animals.
