The combination of confinement and protectionist measures including export bans, import tariffs and border closures that were introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic affect MNEs by increasing trade costs and amplifying the costs of communicating tacit knowledge. In this editorial, we draw specific attention to how these policies impact the heart of MNEs’ activities – the knowledge-intensive intangibles. In business, people travel because they need to transfer skills and know-how and when face-to-face and personal interaction was deemed crucial. According to JP Morgan, air travel alone is more than 30 per cent of MNCs budgets. COVID-19 will allow MNC to test the cost-benefit of travel and entertainment expenses. Technological solutions can now be tested, out of necessity, and some will remain with us forever. Zoom’s stock prices, along with other communication and technology solution companies, skyrocketed in the immediate aftermath of the crisis. In my opinion, considering what I am studying and researching, I understand that industries tend to seek adaptation or even innovation according to the new reality. However, this issue may vary according to the reality where it is installed (country, form of government action, culture of the population, ...). Success in your searches.

Pandemic showed us once again that we live in a small village that is interconnected. Globalization may have slowed down recently due mainly to the US-China dispute and the need to procure "essential" items during crises but it is here to stay and expand due to our dependency on one another. Firms that recognize this reality will continue to go global.

IT companies are well positioned for internationalization, as their services are digital, without borders. Other sectors that benefit from this environment: e-commerce and finance.

The SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic models the processes of business internationalization in many different aspects. On the one hand, international, intermodal logistics chains are shortened, international logistics strategies are changed and e-logistics is developed. On the other hand, the pandemic has increased the scope of digitization and internetization of economic processes. Internet technology companies and Internet scalps, Internet payment and billing systems, and new types of Internet information services developed rapidly. Much of these new online information and online sales and billing services are expanding globally.
