Depends what sort of phenomena you want to catch.

Anyway, hexa, flow-oriented mesh is the best choice in any CFD from ANSYS to OpenFOAM

STAR-CCM+ is excellent for cells with arbitrary topology.

OpenFOAM already has some implemented (even if simplyfied) tutorials about turbomachinery. Have a loot in the /tut folder and run the tutorial. You can use many different strategies starting from MRF and anding with sliding meshes.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've had a look at some different solvers and they all seem pretty good. OpenFOAM has a cost associated with the turbo module, not that any others dont mind you!

I was perhaps a little more interested in the technical side of things. For example if anyone has experience using a particular modelling method like using one turbulence model and then finding that under certain conditions its accurate but not under other conditions etc.....
