In the lit, several people have reported the potential of electrospun cellulose acetate mats as an adsorbent. I attempted to repeat this, I use the same MW, same solvent and spinning conditions, etc but when the mats comes in contact with the oil (motor oil) although it does take up a substantial amount of oil it completely disintegrates and loses its shape from a rectangular piece to a blob of jelly.

can someone help me understand what is happening?
