I am working on a research that will use newspaper reports of a specific religious practice from 1979- 2019. My research questions aim to find the rhetoric and ideological devices used in these reports. I know that Van Djik has a suggested framework in dealing with ideologies, but I am not certain how this can fit into my research, as I also want to see how these ideologies are consumed, produced and reproduced through an interview with participants of this practice. So, Fairclough's three-dimensional concept seems more appropriate. Appreciate your suggestions and feedback.

First , I suggest you build a corpus of newspapers. Then you apply corpus tools in your analysis and you build a mixed method paradigm. I depended on corpus tools mixed with CDA tools to address a similar research problem in political speech and depending on the concordance reading, i was able to design a framework for attitudinal (ideological) identity based on a selection of mental verbs to trace ideological predisposition. Therefore, I highly recommend applying corpus tools especially you are dealing with large amount of data.
I consider Norman Fairclough's ACD model more appropriate to his object of study. From this analytical approach, you can analyze the discourse as text (rhetoric), as a discursive practice (how prevailing and legitimized ideologies and discourses are present) and as a social practice (how discourses produce social effects in the constitution of subjectivities and in the production of discourses in the subjects who consume, reproduce and circulate these discourses). Dear Natrah Noor , I would recommend you to apply Fairclough's three-dimensional framework as an analysis tool for your research. Well...I have done similar research on the use of a particular discourse in one of well-know magazines. However, applying all of his detailed analysis framework would be "feasible" for me to pick only two news articles due to my research time constraints. So, you might want to consider some modifications, if you would analyze huge data from "newspaper reports of a specific religious practice from 1979- 2019". Anyway, for your library research, I would suggest you to visit IIUM library, since you are in Malaysia. Good luck!
