Hi
In VMD when representing the protein as any type of cartoon, the resid selection is offset to the actual residue.
For example if I select resid 2, the section of cartoon that is shown is half of resid 1 and half of resid 2 (Ca to Ca). What should be shown is roughly the N to C atoms (plus a bit to cover the bond distance).
If I colour resid 2 red then it has the same problem that it colours Ca to Ca not the actual residue. (see resid picture)
In contrast if you colour the residues by beta, then the residue is coloured correctly, between the N and C atoms. (see beta picture)
The issue arises if you are colouring by beta and only want to show specific residues as it splits the coloured section in half. (see hybrid picture)
This issue is present in 1.9.3 and 1.9.4a and happens on multiple computers (all ubuntu).
Does anyone know how to fix this or where in the install files I can fix it.
I've also asked in the vmd mailing list.
