I recently performed a necropsy on an adult Geronticus eremita. The bird was found dead at the base of a medium voltage pylon. Usually I’d expect to find external burns or singed feathers, but this was not the case. Instead, I found a cardiac rupture (left ventricle) with no signs of external trauma. I was wondering if something similar had been described in human or vet medicine, but I only found a similar injury described in Kagan, 2016.

What is your experience with cardiac pathology following electrocution in birds? Would histopathology show some suggestive lesions?
