you can use a thermal optical method for EC OC speciation. the BC is optically measured by an aethalometer: certainly contains EC, and perhaps the so-called brown carbon (organic). with thermal optical method (with transittance measure) you can divide organic from elemental carbon and put the brown carbon in organic measure

Do you mean there is also colored desert dust in your sample?
Summary: blackness is a measure for so-called Black Carbon
EC / OC is determined in a completely different and much more expensive approach
