My question is whether or not the sequence for a Phage capsid scaffolding protein (GPO) could be used use for the production of coat proteins. I know the scaffolding protein (gpo), is required for the assembly of correctly formed viral capsids and that the capsid encloses the genetic material of the virus but what I don't know is if the capsid scaffolding protein (gpo) contains any of that genetic material or not. I am having trouble finding a capsid or coat protein sequence for a virus that I am working with but I did come across a sequence number for the Phage capsid scaffolding protein (GPO) but I need to know if I will be able to successfully make and purify coat proteins from it or not. I have a feeling the answer is no but I still need to ask.

Also, if a capsid or coat protein sequence can not be found can somebody tell me what other protein can be used to make coat proteins from (polyprotein, movement, hypothetical, heat-shock, hydrophobic, etc....)? I am fairly new in the world of proteins so if this is a ridiculous question please forgive me, thanks.
