Can you tell me various types of stress by which one can enrich secondary metabolites in plants. I have maintained plants in solid agar medium. I want to provide stress. Please tell me by which way I can give stress to my plants. How can I remove plant from agar media without making injury to plant.
Maybe salt stress, metal stress (increased Mn, Zn, Cu...) It depends on plant species and also the type of secondary metabolite you want to study....

To not injure your seedlings, you should grow your plants at first:
a. In liquid media with an autoclaved paper ( that serves as a support)
b. In agar media with a autoclaved mesh ( that serves as a support)
So when you translated them to the plate with the stress media it serves you as a bridge
I recommend you the liquid media because is more easy to translated without injured.
To stress the plants, you could use several ways:
I leave you a protocol with PEG (osmotic stress)
first you should autoclave your media, then sterile anything (and your hands) with alchol 70% and a few fire(Spirit lamp) , then keep your cultured media in optimom temprature and light .

Very simple...first you should select/probe into problem through literature, and narrow down your question. Under which situation or in response to which factor-say abiotic stress you expect the increased rates of secondary metabolites, then again which stress............so first narrow down to a specific question and the species as well. Then start looking for specific protocols.
There is a number of abiotic stresses is plants. Try salt stress, drought stress (via PEG), low light stress, high light stress (prolonged exposure to light - more than 24 hours), cold stress, heat stress, UV light stress, heavy metal stress.
A number ways can be used to induce stress in plants including extreme temperatures, low moisture availability, light regimes, mineral levels etc. But I suggest you to narrow down your research and proceed accordingly as various species respond differently to different stress inducers.
Insets. Drought. frost. Heat. Flooding. Herbicides etc we now have transgenic plants for all the ills including climate change.
