In terms of plastic pollution in the Pacific, CA Choy has published on plastic particles in the stomachs of pelagic fish (http://www.int-res.com/abstracts/meps/v485/p155-163), and we published on microbial diversity and metabolism on plastic pieces in the Pacific Plastic Patch (http://scope.soest.hawaii.edu/pubs/2016Bryant_mSystems.pdf).

There is also a review from 2002 on plastic debris http://derraik.org/resources/Publications/003.Derraik_2002-Mar_Poll_Bull.pdf
