We have ordered mouse IL1beta from Thermo for a T cell differentiation assay and the recommended storage concentration is 0.1-1mg/mL. Would it be okay to store it at a lower concentration of 2ug/mL? We use it on the order of ng/mL which is why the lower the dilution the better. Would this affect my T cell differentation assay?

It is very much tempting to reduce the concentration of cytokine to save on costs or extended storage, but at the same time it is important to prioritize the integrity and biological activity of cytokine. Lower concentration can make cytokines more susceptible to degradation (e.g., by enzymes, oxidation, or other chemical reactions which is higher compared to the total amount present), aggregation, or denaturation, especially when you carry out freeze-thaw cycles.
Manufacturers design their products to ensure that they are at optimal performance and stable. If you try to deviate from their recommendations, you are compromising on the integrity of the cytokine.
