Can you recommend any data (meta-data is fine) about the annual global financial costs of burnout? Also, I would appreciate any data regarding the global (or european or north american) prevalence of burnout across jobs!
True that – I was actually hoping to find some approximation for work-related neurasthenia (considered equivalent to burnout by Schaufeli et al., 2001) or for individuals scoring highly negative on exhaustion and highly negative on either cynicism or inefficacy on the MBI (Brenninkmeijer and Van Yperen, 2003; Roelofs et al., 2005).
Alternatively, data showing high „burnout“ levels vs. Data showing low „burnout“ levels in different branches would be helpful, just to get a general idea of the incidence of burnout!
I am afraid I have to warn you about mixing depression and burnout. They are two distinct phenomenon. When depressed, people loose interest in everything. When burned out, it is the specific work situation that becomes unbearable but the burned out person can have energy and enthusiasm for hobbies etc. Furthermore biomarkers show difference between depression and burnout and also these biomarkers differ between men and women.
