There are lots of credible articles on this topic but if you fail to use the right terms, it might come up with a 0 result. Go to Cochrane Database, you will come up with something you can be sure of. Example of one I searched is "Interventions for preventing abuse in the elderly" Choo, W. Y. (2012). Interventions for preventing abuse in the elderly. Cochrane Database Of Systematic Reviews, (1), doi:10.1002/14651858.CD010321. Another is, "Domestic Elder Abuse (Persons with Mental Health Problems): Clinical Management: Planning, Interventions and Follow-up (Nurses; Rural and Remote Areas) by Goh , Christine. This is found in Joanna Briggs Institute EBP Database. ProQuest is another good source for such article. Bear in mind that you can not obtain result with the whole topic plucked into the search, so break it into fragments of search terms and you will have a rich combination of results for your paper. Praise makes a helpful suggestion but I would quibble on 2 points.
i) The Cochrane Library / Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) is primarily concerned with studies of treatment (effectiveness / diagnosis). Descriptive studies fall outside it's remit. Therefore it may not be the best source for all questions you might have on this topic (for example prevalence)
ii) Although a review must meet some basic requirements to be included in the CDSR there is no absolute guarantee of quality. It is a database of published reviews. While the Cochrane reviews are developed and conducted according to strict methods studies indexed in CDSR may not have been. You always need to be open to the potential limitations of published studies / reviews that you use.
You may be right Peter, most nursing research is on treatment and intervention but if Julie needs articles on prevalence, these websites may be helpful; http://gerontologist.oxfordjournals.org/content/28/1/51.short, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2804623/. Better still just go to google, view the scholarly articles and govt. websites, you will find credible journal on prevalence. Thanks Peter for quick observation.
